So I've had plaque psoriasis for the last 13 years or so. It comes and goes with and without medication but the last 2 years, it's been pretty bad (for me.) I don't have insurance to visit a dermatologist and can't get any prescription medications. It's been bothering me a lot lately in an emotional sense more than anything and causing serious self ( Read more... )

Tanning has worked for me, but my face/scalp is always a pain and I still use shampoo and creams for that. I do have a bunch of precrisptions I've bought but they didn't work for or I just have extras of clobetasol and clobex shampoo. If you would like I can send it to you.
The thing about the tanning Ive noticed is I have to go 3x or 2x a week for it to really make a difference. But I've also done UVB and I've noticed the same results with tanning that I did with UVB light therapy.

Sorry it took some time to respond. Haven't been on an actual computer in awhile. However if you have ANYTHING at all you don't need/want anymore (med wise) I'd love to take it off your hands. This P is starting to really get out of control :/

Not a problem.
I can send you some stuff I have. Like I said I have extras and it would totally not be a problem. Other than we don't know each other and I need your address. Haha.

Tanning DID work for me until I went on biologics. Oddly enough now, it seems to irritate my P slightly.

I've done UVB at the derm with great results, only to find out several months into my treatments that my insurance stopped covering it. I just started using a tanning bed because I took myself off my biologic that I was on and noticed results right away. When I started the UVB treatments my derm said there were the same skin cancer risks as with tanning, however the risk of getting a severe infection because of the psoriasis was greater and usually out weighed any risks that the UV exposure would cause.

A young lady I used to work with kept her psoriasis at bay via tanning. She had only a few dollar-coin sized spots left on her midriff, and they weren't scaly, only reddish. If tanning works for you, only you can decide if it's worth the potential dryness and/or prematurely aged skin. If you tan easily, the risks might be a lot less than they would be for a tanning-resistant plucked-chicken skinned gal like me!
