I applaud efforts to stop buying from Walmart, but Walmart has already backed down on this particular issue:

i realize that but just because they backed down in this particular instance, doesn't mean they won't do it again to someone else. or that they will suddenly start treating their employees better.

just sayin :0)

also, the reason for them backing down wasn't because they realized the error of their ways. it was because they had gotten so much bad publicity and the case was so high-profile.

I understand what you are saying but don't necessarily agree. Did she sign (and agree to) the policy that legally allowed them to recoup (not take, if I understand correctly) the money? Why wouldn't she be responsible for what she has agreed to?

i agree - there are A LOT of reasons to hate and boycott wal-mart (i have a big thing on my website about them) but i think too much has been made of this story, it's pretty standard for insurance companys (which wal-mart was acting as in this case) to want back the money they spend on your care if you sue for and recover the money spent on your care

i dunno, the whole thing just sounds shady to me. it feels like they're taking advantage of people who work for them and that's not cool. yes, she may have signed a contract but i don't think that everyone is coached on how best to deal with work contracts and maybe she couldn't afford a lawyer to tell her exactly what she was agreeing to upon signing the contract. i know that i sign contracts sometimes and even when i read all the fine print, they're written in such legal jargon that i have a hard time understanding what i've just read. but i sign it because i know i can't receive the service or whatever unless i sign it. maybe she felt the same way.

but anyways, it's pretty much over now. moving on :0)
