"It's the beginning of the end
And I know that I am all alone"

Like what dinsedaledarby said, do what you want to do. Make the decision for yourself and no one else. If you think going to Chicago would be the best for you, then that's what you should do.

Or, I mean, you can always do what I do with my OCD self, and make out a full list of pros and cons. Sometimes it just helps to see it all laid out like that. I know I had to do that when I knew what my options were for grad schools. It's not an easy decision to make. But ultimately don't get overwhelmed in other issues, such as what other people were think, or even to a certain extent financial based stuff. Focus on what's important to you, the school, the program, and the location. That's what Professor Littlefield told me when I came to her for advice.

If I hear from Penn State, I'll make the Pros/Cons thing! Thanks! Yea I know I should focus on what's important to me. I'm just not sure what's more important right now: people in my life or getting the M.A.

I'd say your M.A. I mean, I hate to say it, but the people in your life should understand if you go to school further away. It doesn't mean you can't visit, and it certainly doesn't mean that you can't still talk to them and stay in contact in various ways. As you mentioned below, it might only be for two years. I mean, the fact of the matter is that you might end up at a PhD program further away when the time comes for that. You need to do what's best for you, and if you think for both career purposes and sanity related reasons it would be best if you went to Chicago, then that's what you should do. Your friends will still be your friends, no matter if you're two hours away from them, or two timezones away. There's always a way to make it work.

Thanks, Christa and Megan! I'm working on it slowly but surely. I'm in a limbo type of thing because I am not sure if too many people would be upset if I move a timezone away and don't come back for at least 2 years or more.

I'll figure it all out, I guess...
