how do they sound?

my dad spent a year making his own set of speakers for his home theater system. he's a serious craftsman-engineer type, and his system is hands-down the best home theater i've ever heard. check out pics here - http://moonzero.com/albums/Road-Trip!/ - starting at pic 799.

oh, my dad would be annoyed if i didn't mention the tech specs - there's something like 1200 watts of amplification for the whole system (2 mains, 2 subwoofers, 2 sides, 2 rear, 1 center channel), with each subwoofer having its own dedicated 300-watt amp. the speaker cones are from some fancy-schamncy manufacturer in france, and the wood is special plywood-type stuff (though very high quality) from russia or something. he spent a bazillion hours on the finish for the speakers, and they're all polished and glass-smooth.

Naturally, they're still breaking in, but initial testing has been very positive.

I'm going to have to spend more time looking at those very nice speakers in the pics.

I haven't even reached the point of tweaking source gear yet. But everyone keeps suggesting that I do something about the TV, so it'll probably be next in line. Still so much to do, though. There's still some final cosmetic changes to apply to the speakers, and the surround sound wiring for the living room...

We didn't need LiveJournal to tell us that your mood is "accomplished." We can tell from the picture :)

What's really odd is the subject material for the last time I chose accomplished as my posting mood.

One question: why did you guys make them so small?

;)

We were afraid that the cat might try into them if the ports had to be any larger than 4" diameter.
