The New Who series has forgiveness as a kind of running leitmotif, starting with the whole of Season One, with the Doctor learning to forgive himself (as much as he can) for his role in the Time War.
Also, I can't remember if you've watched the Classic Series or not. The Doctor's relationship with the Master is...tangled. One of the things I love about the New Series is that they're not afraid to explore the idea that these two enemies could also be (emotional) intimates while still being enemies.
That comes out even stronger in "The End of the World", the Tennant-run finale.
Is there anyone with whom we're more intimate than our enemies, or any wonder that the people we've loved can slip so easily into the other camp?
Yes, I watched the Classic Series. Mostly when I was a kid and it ran on our Channel 13 PBS station. I don't really know why I've hopped back into it now. It's been a long time since I've recreated with media in general or even the genre in specific. Seems to scratch an itch I didn't know I had.
I don't remember her name! But oh how we argued on this point. She ran a little coffee shop across the street from where I work. In her cold case, she had some fresh fruit, yogurts, one or two sandwich choices, and sweets. She either baked or brought in fresh breads.
I was in there, waffling over my lunch choice, and realized how very much I would love to buy one of her small breads, a hunk of cheese, and a piece of fruit. I could *always* eat cheese. She asked what I was looking for, and I told her. I told her I wanted some cheese with bread and fruit (and a glass of wine, but I didn't say that out loud).
She went on to explain that cheese wasn't in season, and she couldn't carry it in the case because it spoilt too quickly. And took up too much space. I tried to suggest maybe some splits of brie? But there was no traction. And of course, it's her shop, and I respect her choice.
I just used my equal choice, and switched to the competing shop that's a little further away, and carries cheese.
