You know, I never really personally understood why land allocation was given just to the 'principals' as it is - why not just allow the major kingdoms who come to visit (like the West, and An Tir, and Calontir) have their own individual land coordinator? But then, I am just a dirty westie. :) Honestly, I think that alot of people have become very concerned with the direction Estrella is taking, and much of the outside world really thinks that Atenveldt is trying to actually shrink it, take it in a more Aten-centric direction. I really hope (personally) that Caid and Artemisia decide to come back to the table as principals, but there are alot of reasons why they wouldn't that I can see.
In fact, we did that.public_shaylanJune 29 2009, 23:07:20 UTC
We did that a couple years... like when I was the aten land coordinator - we gave land to the principals - and then we gave land to the kingdoms with a historical proof of gate counts above 1 or 2%. Thus West, AnTir and Calontir got allotments... however then Calontir didn't want to administrate their own allotment - and ceeded it over to Outlands... and then for 'some reason' the land allotments were re-tied to being a principal.
We did that actually. The 2 reigns I had made that happen. Don't know what happened last year..but it was that way as recently as the year I was King at Estrella.
However, I do recall at least one kingdom, if not more than one, NOT wanting to do the land allocation.
Not to start a giant argument, but my boy doesn't remember anything but land coming to us from Caid, including the last time that your most awesome self was King of the Sun. Now, he does recall the notion that if we agreed to fight for Atenveldt for five years in a row, we would be granted 'permanent battlefield land', but the West isn't really into those types of treaties that tie the hands of our Kings for that long, so naturally the answer was no. I get that you may have tried to get that to happen, but to the Westerners who were there, our land came from Caid, and from Caid's portion, says Roric.
I've always been told that the first rule of Estrella war is: Atenveldt always wins the war. So why the hell would I want to give up all of my vacation time to sleep in a cold, windy, oft' muddy field if my peeps aren't going to have a shot at winning the war?
Granted, it isn't always about winning, but it would be nice to be given a fair shake.
T and I don't go b/c I only get 4 days vacation a year and I need two for Potrero and the other two for our anniversary.
I don't know if Maw and Paw are going to keep going either. It's a lot of work for them and they aren't as young as they used to be.
Land allocation is a BITCH- regardless of what event it's for.
Ya, I hear ya on the 'BITCH' part of that job... it's thankless and often you get painted with the black even if you do a good job. Why do ya think I lub on or help yer ma and bri over land stuff whenever I can? - I feel their pain.
I've always been under the impression that if Atenveldt is allied with Outlands or just Artemisia that Atenveldt loses the war... But if they're allied with Caid, then it's a sweep...
Oh and XtraLub for you and T. Sorry I missed ya this weekend.
This is true. Atenveldt does not ALWAYS win the war. It happens a lot...sure. It actually surprises me more years than not. If I was the leader of another Kingdom I would certainly not let it happen. Not sure why it does. Baffles me.
This is cyclic, and has been going on since Burro Creek. I've seen all three Kingdoms pull out of the war multiple times. Part of the problem, is lack of serious input from other Kingdoms. Atenvelt does seem to view it as their war, with other Kingdoms being incidental. Of course those other Kingdoms aren't doing much to be more involved in the actual running of the war. Not sure what would fix things. I know my dad was on staff for a few years, and his protegee still is, but I can't think of any other Caidens that are.
It was great to see you this weekend! Hugs from you are always appreciated.
*hugsbackatcha* This year is rather cool actually from the staff perspective... The Volunteer Autocrat is from Artemisia - and she's got deputies in other kingdoms too - I ran into one at the event in Caid who is her deputy... The Gate Autocrat is from Outlands this year - from my favorite Japanese out there... He's the poo and then some!
So, we've got a few who are trying... but it really sucks when you've worked and finally gotten onto war staff - with a group who may not make that easy - and then find that your kingdom 'pulled out' so you end up feeling a little high and dry or abandoned by your own people.
I'm sorry - I didn't realize you were going for a repeat! For some reason I thought with the blond one as incomming crown you'd be doing stuff for their reign not the war!
I wonder, if they're not having Caid as a principal... if anyone would be open to the idea of inviting advisors from the non-principals to get their ideas and input to make it more fun for everyone involved - but without the "official responsibilities" of having a crown involved with the "Treaty"...Well, for development of rapier scenarios we have a private e-list that includes not only the Caid KRM and his deputy, but also the KRMs for Artemesia and An Tir, several DWS, prior KRMs and other interested parties
