I was always under the assumption that oxygenated blood was red because it was oxygen mixed with iron; in other words, iron oxide, or rust, in everyday parlance.
You're totally right on the oxygenation bit, and that still fits in with the copper versions - what oxygen does to iron, it does to copper, except in the case of copper, you end up with blue instead of red.
Maybe you were also thinking about how blood that is oxygenated is brighter red than blood that isn't so oxygenated?
Giving blood is fun! I will try to do it next week, but I might be too unironed, I try to Popeye it up, but it doesn't always work. I couldn't give for ages because they didn't have a non iodine version of the little pad. They still called and mocked me for iodine allergies. But, now they have it again. So next week! Cookies! And blood.
Is there any medicine I can take to make my blood green? That would be cool to get a cut and see some green ooze coming out. Not like booger green, but like grass green. nice!

It is part of the new marketing campaign: "Give now or we send the thugs to extract what we need."

Hey, it's been more than 3 years since I had a perm and my hair STILL DOES THE RINGLETS. I think I may have a world record there. ;)
