Oh dear, I hope this goes through. For some reason I was under the impression last night that it made it through the senate as well, but I guess not. Good luck, New Yorkers.
Not yet; the Senate's Republican-controlled, and even though a lot of prominent republicans (like Bloomberg) have supported the bill, it's still up in the air. I do know that we're about one vote away from securing enough votes, though, so I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get that last one.
I'm pretty useless for calls or signal-boosting, since I'm with my family ATM and all of my tiny online circles already know this. I've always wondered, though, in past times of chickening out, exactly what one ought to say in such situations.
In my experience, I've usually found that simple and polite works just fine: who you are, whether or not you support (Issue X) and maybe something brief and anecdotal if it's relevant, and your address or zip if they ask you.
I don't live in New York anymore, but maybe some relatives will pitch in instead! In any case, good luck with this. Your state still fails far less than mine. Fuck you, PA.

We're rooting for you here in Boston. We've had gay marriage for years now and I believe we just won some sort of important hockey thing.
See? Support gay marriage and you can get a giant silver cup.

And your logic is flawless. *grins* (Though doesn't British Columbia allow gay marriage, too?)

As you can imagine, my Debate Club tryout did not go particularly well.
