Thanks. ♥ It really sucks when people's bassackwards beliefs get in the way of my relationship -- which I do believe has nothing to do with them at all! Imagine that.
New York State Senator Roy McDonald, one of a handful of Republicans bucking their own party who will vote to legalize gay marriage in the state of New York, got sick and tired of being pushed around by gay marriage opponents. He released a statement to the press with the following quote.
"You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing," McDonald, 64, told reporters. "You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, fuck it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing.
"I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this."
I just called J. Kemp Hannon's office from my Nassau County phone number and my parents' Nassau County address. Don't know if it'll make a difference, but I hope that every little bit helps.
(Complete and total aside: A couple I know had their mixed Jewish-Chinese wedding by having two outfits, traditional western and traditional Chinese. If/when you guys get married, you could totally both wear stylish tuxes AND big floofy white dresses!)
No girl should be denied her dream wedding, whether it involves another girl or a boy. See if a senator can answer that question: "Would you deny a girl her dream wedding, the wedding she's been dreaming about since she was five, by saying she's not allowed to marry someone at all?" Someone who says yes gets an instant 'douche' forehead stamp. PERFECT PLAN.
I would call (this is so exciting, I hope to god this passes) if I didn't live elsewhere so wouldn't be much help. (I wish I lived in a state that even considered this at all. Fuck you, Georgia.)
I mentioned my big-floofy-dress dreams to one of the people I contacted, and she seemed to get a kick out of that. (And I don't know if I've been dreaming since I was five -- didn't really warm up to the marriage thing at all until recently -- but still. I WANT A FLOOFY DRESS AND IF YOUR LAWS STOP ME, FUCK YOUR LAWS.)
Hey, it's a dream that plenty of people can understand. Especially since it shows that you have the same hopes a wishes that everyone else does. Just because you like girls doesn't make you an alien demonspawn thing; you're human too (duh). I don't think an alien demonspawn thing would like a floofy dress much. But then I don't know many. :P
And you may not have been dreaming quite since you were five, but I know someone who has, and she wants so bad to have that dream wedding, who gives a crap if she's meeting another girl at the altar. And there are plenty of other girls out there with the same dreams.

(I think I am with Mith on the no-tuxes thing, but big floofy white dresses? Yes. Though I would prefer one that doesn't make me look like a cupcake.)
