I, like the rest of the Internet, have seen the THG trailer.

So there's a Hunger Games trailer now.

I'm not going to embed it because I think everyone who cares (and a lot of people who don't) has seen the thing, but I have thoughts on it! Some of these thoughts I've already sorta-expounded-upon on Twitter and in various comment threads, but I might as well gather them here.

Overall, I like it a lot, and I ( Read more... )

(Hi there!)

Granted, trailer music is not always the stuff that appears in the film, though usually with Danny Elfman they seem to use bits from the actual score? But I'm mostly thinking about Danny Elfman-Tim Burton teamups, and this is not one. We shall see.

I just want to see the girl on fire costume, but they're totally saving that for the actual movie.

Oh, did he? That's going to be an interesting combination. But it could kind of work, maybe? I can see Elfman doing cool shit with the music in the Capitol, and maybe the other dude will cover the Districts. I have no idea if this is actually feasible, my girlfriend is the composer, not me.

I feel you on the head-buildup, though for me that's going to come into play more with Catching Fire, because I am going to be incredibly judgmental about what they do with Finnick Odair.

I feel like you're going to be sick of me if I capslock the word "perfection" at you a lot of times, but...well.

I think we will only really get into a disagreement if you praise that godawful thing on Haymitch's head.

NEVER. It looks ridiculous- I think it's maybe partly the angle/lighting and isn't going to change anything about the movie, lol, but it looks ridiculous.

You already are quite aware of my thoughts on the trailer, I suspect, but I pretty much agree with all of your likes.

Though I am slightly disappoint that they did not use "Mind Games" for this trailer. Or shout the "LET THE 74TH HUNGER GAMES BEGIN!" at the end, like I thought they would. Rue's whistle made up for it, though.

Yeah, I caught your post on it earlier today! (So with you on the melody, too -- that was the part where I went "oh hey, Danny Elfman.")

I liked them ending it on Rue's whistle, too, if only because the way the sequence ends makes it sound like there's so much left unresolved. Again, Mith could totally explain this better than me, but that last note leaves you hanging, which, uh, kind of summarizes the experience of hitting the end of THG. Freaking cliffhangers, man.

...I hated the whole trailer, LOL. The only thing that I liked was Josh's face as Peeta watches the Capitol come into view from the train window, and Josh is one of my least favorite Hollywood actors. 8\

Aaw, I like Josh, or I did in The Kids Are All Right. (Haven't seen much else he's been in, I don't think.) I've always found him appealingly open and vulnerable without overdoing it, which reads like a very Peeta set of characteristics to me. But I liked those train shots, too.

I didn't like his handling of the Spider-Man casting. I thought it was really unprofessional and just gave me a bad taste in my mouth regarding him. :\

I really appreciated the skilled way they used insightful Capitol meta to effectively steer the trailer away from any notion of rebellion, politics, or the fact that it's a movie about children who kill each other, and instead carefully crafted a narrative about Katniss, The Girl Who Had To Get Back To Her Man.
