Gender roles

I have recently gotten quite annoyed with a specific subject- gender roles. Now I am fairly traditional when it comes to the roles a man and woman should play, but I think the hard and fast rules about who can do what type of tasks is ridiculous. Especially since when a woman is interested in "man things" (i.e. cars, power tools, building stuff, ( Read more... )

Agreed.

While it's not my thing, I've got a small sewing project going on. And it's in the name of room decor! Both things "traditionally" fall into the category of women, but I'm not any less of a guy because I do these things.

I find most pigeon-holing to be from less intelligent folk. The recent discussions of gender roles has been quite surprising, especially because the primary player is typically quite open-minded and he enjoys questioning society's assumptions.

Me? I think gals who know computers to be quite attractive, and computers are typcially thought of as a masculine pasttime. Bah! :)

Yeah! Someone else agrees! :) Sorry for my rant, but I couldn't hardly think today at work cuz I was so worked up. Silly of me, I know. :)
In other news- I managed to migrate my outlook account to my new desk, AND figured out how to get all the work e-mail boxes in my folder list AND set up signatures for my account. :) I'm feeling pretty accomplished. How attractive do ya find me now, huh?? ;) Just kidding. I'm taken. :)

Hey now! I like women who have a penchant for technological dabbling myself, and I consider myself lucky that my girlfriend knows her way around Outlook and other programs that I don't know myself. I think it's kind of balanced that way. I also love the fact that she's hooked on Guild Wars. :D

I know it hasn't been updated in a while but changes are still going on in my life, and I'm sure it's going to take a while to find out who I truly am now. Things that were once important to me hold little significance to me now, and I'm discovering new things all of the time. It's something I've been struggling with for a few months now, but it's interesting what you discover when you stop and look up from your DVD/VideoGame/Book/Computer once in a while. Life.

Well, my Dad did have a time in his life when he stopped virtually everything that was important to him and changed to something completely different. He had spent his entire life as a dancer and was into the whole drinking/partying scene, but then it all changed. This was before I knew him, but he did change quite a bit. He traded the unsteady show life for a more steady computer job, and stopped doing a lot of the things that were important to him. He has added quite a bit of new things to his list of stuff he does, too since I've known him. I think it's important for people to continue to try new things. But anyway- the changes that happened came at a certain part in his life that I am almost reluctant to mention here, but I will anyway. He started changing when he met my mom. Then he changed a lot more after he became a Christian. But anyway, I see nothing wrong with change, and that's not what I was talking about in my post. Mine was related to gender roles, and just that. But I also find there to be nothing wrong with a sudden ( ... )
