I dropped a few bucks in the Red Cross box here. But why are my friends on LJ saying that the ARC discriminates against homosexuals?

Really? I'd be interested to see what folks are saying...

I get a feeling that maybe they're thinking about the blood services side, where there is indeed discrimination -- though I believe that's an industry-wide thing. As far as the disaster relief side, the Red Cross is pretty militantly impartial in my experience; also, they were more inclusive than, say, the government in post-9/11 relief:

One did mention blood donation, but another said something about services provided outside of disaster relief.

Thanks for the link... I don't have a negative opinion of the Red Cross, just curious why others would and figured you'd have the inside scoop.

I know my firm stopped coordinating efforts through the Salvation Army for this reason but we still rely on the Red Cross for coordinated efforts due to their non-discrimination policy.

You make friends, you write creative nonfiction. One thing leads to another and then boom, one Thursday you're outside this place called Spontaneous Celebrations. You see hott people going inside, and you decide to follow the yummy moo moos. You see the sign up sheet. You decide to use your 3 minutes as an opportunity to hit on as many people in the audience as possible while also squandering any illusion of your literary genius.

Such are the ways of the world.
