My car is here! My car is here, my car is here, my car is here! I got to go look at her, and sit in her, and I can't wait to get out on the open road! But, of course, there is paperwork to complete, and fees to be paid, and it will prolly be a few weeks before I can drive her off the lot. But I'm just so amazed that my car is here with me ( Read more... )

Hey...What's the price of gas out there? I hear it's more expensive in Europe. Also, I wonder if driving in Europe is much different than driving in the US.

Gas is, indeed, extremely expensive over here. However, as a diplomat, I do not have to pay taxes on gas, so it ends up costing about the same as in Chicago. (Finnish diplomats in the U.S. don't pay tax on gas, either.)

One of the rules of the road around here is that anyone coming from the right has the right of way, no matter how small their road is and how large your road is. I have a little handbook for driving that I'm really going to have to take a look at. What I'm most interested in is learning what the signs mean. I've seen one sign around a lot that is circular, painted blue, and has the red line across it diagonally. As my sister said, "What does that mean? No blue allowed?"

I do miss having a social life. Now that the weather is nice, I yearn to be chillin' with my homies at a BBQ. But other than that, it's all good. =)

Hey, are you ok? There's news here about downtown Helsinki being on fire.

Doing fine, thanks for asking.

May Day is a big celebration over her (we even had the day off), and it's known for drunken revelry. On May Day, some kids started bonfires in the yard of this condemned warehouse, but the fire brigade prevented it from spreading to the building. It seems that now someone decided to burn it for good.

It's about a mile from my house, and not along my commute home, so I didn't know anything about it until now! Those were some awfully pretty pictures...
