My answer was correct. As I noted in my public statement on March 2, 2017, I was surprised by the allegations in the question, which I had not heard before. I did not mention communications I had had with the Russian Ambassador over the years because the question did not ask about them.

As I discussed publicly on March 2, 2017, I spoke briefly to the Russian Ambassador at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, in July 2016. This was at the conclusion of a speech I had made, when I also met and spoke with other ambassadors. In September 2016, I met with the Russian
Ambassador at my Senate office in the presence of members of my professional Senate staff. I do not recall any discussions with the Russian Ambassador, or any other representative of the Russian government, regarding the political campaign on these occasions or any other occasion.

The Judiciary Committee received a letter dated March 3, 2017, from Committee Democrats that asks other questions. The letter asks why I did not supplement the record to note any contact with the Russian Ambassador before its disclosure. Having considered my answer responsive, and no one having suggested otherwise, there was no need for a supplemented answer. I also promptly made a decision on recusal.

Характерно, что Сешнс не называет точной даты. Его вторая встреча с Кисляком была 8 сентября 2016.

Но хочу Вам ещё раз сказать, мне об этом точно совершенно ничего неизвестно, и на государственном уровне Россия никогда этим не занимается. Я, честно говоря, даже не мог себе представить, если сказать Вам откровенно, что информация подобного рода может представить интерес для американской общественности, что, оказывается, предвыборный штаб одного из кандидатов, в данном случае госпожи Клинтон, работал на нее, а не равномерно на всех кандидатов Демократической партии. Да мне просто в голову не приходило, что это может быть для кого-то интересно. Поэтому даже с этой точки зрения мы никак туда официально не могли залезть. Для этого, понимаете, нужно чувствовать нерв и особенности внутриполитической жизни Соединенных Штатов. Я не уверен, что даже наши специалисты в МИДе чувствуют это должным образом.

"I hope that if they are doing something I hope that somebody's going to be able to find out so they can end it, because that would not be appropriate."

King also asked Trump about Russian President Vladimir Putin's assertion that the hack was a "public service," even as he claimed the Russian government was not involved. "I don't have any opinion on it. I don't know anything about it. I don't know who hacked. I'm not sure. You tell me. Who hacked? Who did the hacking?" Trump said.

Занятная формулировка: вместо прямого отрицания ссылка на проблемы с памятью. В устных показаниях это было бы нормально, в письменных выглядит подозрительно. Речь ведь идет о недавнем прошлом. Если Сешнс чего-то не помнит, это легко было бы восстановить.
