do i rant a lot?

we had this huge discussion about women in advertising [specifically mothers and wives] in my english class. my teacher felt that women today have come a long way from being only pictured within the home to now showing that she has a job ( Read more... )

The fact of the matter is that women can't do all the things men can do. That doesn't mean any one woman can't be better at any specific hard-manual-labor-thing than any other man. But women as a whole are the weaker sex. And this is proven! Women don't develop muscles the same, the have a smaller bone structure and are more frail. What's great is that housework generally works well with their traits, and in fact, brings out the best in women, using their abilities to the max. I, unlike most guys, can actually thread a needle, but most stong guys can't. We generally have thicker more abrasive hands so we can't work delicately. So women truely do have the advantage over men in sewing as this example was about, but really almost all housework. This isn't to say that we're not good at it, in fact for a day we can take off work and help our wives out, but we do bumble with a few things! By the end of the day though we usually feel like that super-husband that has done everything perfect! Sure there are many cases of a woman being able to ( ... )

have you ever questioned why it is, in general, that women tend to be physically weaker than men? it's not because of biology or some inherent flaw. the fact of the matter is that women are taught by society to be weaker. we are taught not to exercise our bodies in the same way as a man. we are taught to perform behavior that is detrimental to our health, such as excessive dieting and wearing high heeled shoes. the fact that some women do not fit this "weaker woman" model is proof that we are not biologically the weaker sex. from birth, if a woman is given the same encouragement and opportunity as a man, then she can perform the same physical and mental activities just as well as any man. wake up and take a look at all of the bullshit that you've been force-fed your entire life. there are certain ideals that are taught to us from the moment we enter this world and they need to stop.

thank you for putting all of my anger words into a more intelligible reply to that message. i have not yet achieved proper distance to respond. this whole topic is part of why i would like to study anthropology. there are many indigenous tribes throughout the world that totally dismiss the popular sexist thinking that women are only fit for housework--in that the women are the hunter/gatherers and the men are the caretakers.

i agree. i'm afraid that i have no been able to process my rage to such mindsets in order to respond in a mature and fashionable way. i can't imagine what 1st and 2nd wave feminists felt like. i would have probably been in this constant state of rage.

i realize that this specific almost uncontrollable type anger is immature of me. hopefully as i progress and learn more, i will be able to channel it into more worthy of causes then being enraged by ignorant boys who are simply a product of their american upbringing and the media they choose to surround themselves with.

It makes me glad there's so little television in my life right now. Print media advertisements can be just as bad, but the offensiveness is at least somewhat toned down.

And British radio adverts are just daft. Not offensive. Merely daft.

Comparing a woman and a man is comparing two different things. Obviously one is going to outpower the other in certain things and vice versa. It's like comparing two different weapons or cars. So this arguement seems pretty pointless if you dont look at the particular fact that you're comparing different things. Do I even make sense? heh

I can't believe you people. The guy comes in her honestly expressing his opinion. Calming explaining why he says what he says and after you respond "Seething with rage" he casually agrees with disagree. And here you guys are attacking him with half-truths and sexist remarks! "Women withstand pain better, *snap snap snap ( ... )

though there is a lot to repond to in this comment. i find that this didn't quite anger me as much as zachary's did. maybe its b/c i feel sorry for you. or maybe its b/c you sound so ridiculous. well spoken and yet ridiculous.

amazing.

i don't think you understood anything that was going on. your responses of 'shut up' prove it. but that's alright.

you did help me realize one thing though. and for that i will thank you for.

thank you for helping me understand that there will always be people out there that i disagree with. that fluster me. close minded conservatives that is. anyway i suggest you stay in your own journal and post your anger/ignorance/condescending nature there next time b/c this never had anything to do with you.

one more thing. if you'll notice in my reply to xpuella8x and rosiexriveter [not to zachary] i recognized my first reaction to anger as immaturity. not that its any of your business.

i did have fun reading your response though. funny stuff. ok i'm done. bye now.

I saw you added me to your friend's list, looked through your LJ, and found this entry. I agree far too much not to add you back. *chuckles* I despise all those commercials with the bumbling dads, unable to control the kids, letting the house go to hell, etc. ad nauseum. Give. Me. A. Break. But then, I'm sick of advertising and the media, period. I refuse to subject myself to it anymore.

rock on. turn off the tv. there's not really worth watching unless its documentaries or something worthwhile. i happen to believe that regular tv [fox, cbs, nbc etc] is disasterous. although i do watch meet the press every sunday. great show.

ok i'm done rambling.
