As I am Obviously the Authority on Computer Games...graham_leeseMarch 5 2007, 23:28:55 UTC
Nintendo have pushed the Industry into a strange place. The Wii is aimed at non gamers. Non gamers love it. They love it to the extent that Jon is going to buy one. Jon hates computer games. I think Nintendo, rather than compete with Sony and Microsoft, instead just want to make as much money as possible as a business, in contrast to a company trying to push art. On a personal note, I think the Wii is the most funnest goodest thing to ever exist. But then again, have I ever completed a computer game? Probably not. They made the Wii for silly's. They have suceeded. Good for them.

I do see where you're coming from and I think its good that Nintendo are attempting to appeal to a different audience. I dunno, maybe I feel neglected.

Graham is actually spot on. The big N have said plenty of times that with the wii they aren't competing with Sony or Microsoft but rather going in their own direction. This new direction has given them a new audience of people that like doing things instead of just sitting down pressing buttons. However the Wii also has enough elements and games to keep your average gamer interested with the likes of zelda, mario and metroid prime. I can't argue your points on Red Steel. Wii sports is a game that gets more fun each time you play it as the games become ore competitive and interesting as you improve I don't think that playing tennis once and boxing twice gives one the right to judge the whole game. Wii sports has been played more than any of my other wii games including zelda which i think says something about whether or not it would be worth buying on its on

I'm sure Wii sports is a good party game when you're high but you'll have a hard time convincing me its anything other than a bare-bones sports sim that lacks depth. It just seems a little half-assed. They could have made it twice as good and still given it away free with the console.
Now, I keep hearing all this crap about Nintendo not competing with Sony and Microsoft. Well like it or not, they have no choice. The non-gamer market is a shallow pit at past and there are only so many people that are going to be pulled in by the cheap price tag and flashy controller before the well runs dry and even those who've bought one, how long before its picking up dust in the corner? Non-gamers don't keep up to date on the latest releases and whats worth buying or not. I think that after picking up the third dud of the last few months, most of them will hang up their wiimote, take the console out back and put it out of its misery so the kids don't have to watch it suffer.(Figuratively speaking of course
