What information does a writer need to provide at each checkpoint? I didn't see details on checkpoints and I'm new to this type of challenge.

At checkpoints writers will give their current word count, and status on fic. They will be asked things like what they like about the fic, what they don't like, etc. So the mods can keep track of how they are doing and if needed offer an ear to vent.

Rough draft? galeandrandy January 8 2010, 21:51:25 UTC
Hi, so the rough draft that is to be due on March 22nd, is there another due date for the completed work? Or is that all the same. I'm a little confused by that. There's no ? that I'll have over 10,000 words written by that point, but just making sure that I have this challenge right before officially signing up.

Thanks, Rory

EDIT: *facepalm* Never mind, I understand the checkpoints now and re-reading the userinfo let me answer my question. I think I was not fully awake at first.

What kind of a beta do you need? Some betas just check for misspelled words, and in the other end of the spectrum there are betas (actually editors) that check even for the cohesiveness of individual sentences. Do you need someone to help you with grammar? Should your beta check your word choices (highly recommended for writers like me that use English as a second language. Heads sprouting words are quite in need of help...)? Some betas help writers with the structure of the story, or give feedback on style. There are even people that can help a writer with ferreting out ideas. Know you needs before you go beta-hunting ( ... )

I have a question! I understand that no one is supposed to see at least half of the WIP/completed one that we're doing right now. I was wondering if writing my fic within my own personal universe as a sequel to a story I just finished posting, is acceptable?

I can always add notes that are need-to-know about the first story either at the beginning of the story, or sprinkled throughout the actual story so people aren't completely in the dark if they haven't read it, if you prefer.

That's fine, sequels and prequels are allowed as long as the the fic is a new one and the word count is over 10,000 in that one.

When rough drafts are due instructions will be posted on how to submit your rough draft, basically you will send an email to the mod gmail with your fic information, a summary (for artists) and have your fic attached. Hope that helps!
