So, is the Azumanga Daioh anime worth checking out or should a person really get the manga? I ask because, while I kind of got out of the habit of watching lots and lots of anime about ten years ago, I used to really like it, and I've been thinking that I'd like to Netflix a series to have on hand when I'm taking breaks from schoolwork. Everyone has been recommending "Death Note" but, based on the on-line descriptions anyway, I am not sure if it's what I had in mind.
I found Azumanga Daioh amazing, but I personally prefer the anime to the manga, because the cast did a great job of pulling out the characters personalities, which I thought was really the focus of the whole thing. Also I loved the music.
The manga just felt a bit brief in comparison. It's nothing whatsoever like Death Note though.
See, I read the manga first and couldn't stand the anime. They had to keep the 4koma pacing which...doesn't really work in a half-hour block anime. YMMV tho.
I prefer the anime to the manga myself since the characters are so well done and the art is a bit better in most places. Some of the jokes, however, really do suit the manga better. It is very entertaining!
Also, Death Note is better than it sounds, but really only the first half. Then it kind of goes down hill.
