So I got this really awesome job as a Refugee Housing Coordinator at a local community service organization.  15 hours a week, $12/hour.  With taxes and such that would have worked out to be around $650 a month.  Pretty freaking sweet for a part-time job while I'm taking classes ( Read more... )

Does workstudy need to be part of your financial aid? Or are you saying as a condition of your financial aid you can't do work study? I'm confused, and personally I think it sounds like they wrongly shafted you. Can you talk to your advisor and see if you can still get that job?
UGH! Good luck though. I hope you find something just as good if not better!

You have to apply to work study in the beginning of the year as part of your financial aid package. It's a strange system because you're basically working for money that you could get for free. If you're eligible to apply for $50,000 in loans and don't do work study, you'll get $50,000. If you're going to do work study, you can only apply for say, $45,000 in loans, then you have to work a certain number of hours a week to get the extra $5,000. So really you're better off NOT doing work study, getting the money for free in a loan, and finding an outside job. However, most of the relevant jobs for degrees are work-study. Because I was working in DC last year and making serious money I didn't qualify, despite the fact I had to deplete my bank account to move out here ( ... )

Say what?! That's so ridiculous. So you still can't do work study even if it's not part of your financial package? I just don't understand why they wouldn't take you as an intern. BLARGH! I'm sorry, I really hope it works out, and if you can get that coffee shop job, at least it's money!

YES, and OMG. We're just riding Saturday morning because Kim has been sick, and she has a lesson with Shannon Peters! You HAVE to come. We can ride at 10am and then Kim's lesson is at 1pm so that'll give us plenty of time to tack, ride, untack, clean-up before heading to her place. She trains with Sarah Martin and Shannon Peters when Shannon's not out on the show or clinic circuit. I guess she's friends with Steffan too.

Wow, that would be awesome!! I'll definitely be there. We're going out Friday night for my roommate's birthday, but it will NOT be another 3am night because I am way too old for that and would much rather get some sleep and head to the barn.

Should I get there at 10 or a bit earlier?
