When Kevin wakes up, he doesn't open his eyes right away.

He doesn't want to see the empty room he's half-sure will be there now he's awake. Just a dream, like all the other times.

He doesn't relax more than a little. Is this just more of the dream?

"Darien?"

There's a gentle hand sifting through his hair.

"That's my name, don't wear it out."

He could still be dreaming, he knows. But he has to believe it's real sooner or later.

He opens his eyes, shaking, and turns towards the voice, leans into the hand.
