Poor Chiaki. He hates deceit and here Takaya is deceiving himself, Irobe is asking him to keep secrets from Kagetora, and Kotarou is still behaving like Naoe. Yeah... I'd find everything a bit frustrating myself
( ... )
I kind of chuckled when Yuzuru said he felt almost like Takaya's lover and then you have Chiaki's line that if Kagetora wanted to be violated by someone let him do it.
Kuwabara depicted Chiaki so well here and I really empathized because I've been frustrated by this particular plot point.
Sorry... didn't mean to confuse and you are right Chiaki never addresses Takaya as Takaya but as Kagetora. However, in the midst of the fight when you go between them talking about how they are looking at the other and so forth, the names used are Chiaki and Takaya. Sometimes it's confusing to me to know how each of the characters feel about the other in name respect.
I have seen Takaya/Kagetora refer to Chiaki as Nagahide and Chiaki. I'm curious as to how they feel about the other's identity in relation to a name and if it effects their view of the other and their calling someone by a certain name effected by how the feel towards that person at the time. Hmmm... just my own obsessive musings about names. Names tend to mean something to me and for some reason I have projected it on these characters just as many fanfic writers have.
But my curiousity stems from do you choose how Takaya/Kagetora is referred to name wise in the story or does the author switch between the two like you have done in this chapter?
That was quite dramatic at the end. I honestly didn't expect Chiaki to just snap like that but, on the other hand, I kind of understand his frustration. I loved his snapping at Kotarou for the way he addressed him, that was quite amusing.
As for Nobunaga, it both frightens and amuses me that he's a rockstar. That was certainly a "what the...?" moment.
Thank you for translating and sharing this with us! It's always so wonderful to read every time!
Fantastic chapter. I was wondering when we'll see Nobunaga appearing as a rock star. And wow, I wasn't expecting Chiaki to lose it with Takaya. This is such an exciting series.
I'm not surprised by Nagahide's outburst given his history of delivering verbal smackdowns to Takaya/Kagetora. Remember the scene in anima episode 8/ volume 6 when they come to exorcise ghosts from a swimming pool? If two years have passed between books 12 and 13, than I'm surprised he's managed this long.
Well I'm starting to dislike Irobe and his blind obedience to Kenshin although to be fair we aren't shown his point of view still if I went off ranting about how he and Kenshin are screwing over Kagetora I might end up spoiling future chapters for other readers.
On an unrelated note a Naoe/Kagetora essay was posted on ship_manifesto; I haven't had the time to look through it yet but it seems to mostly concern itself with anime and OVA though it gives links to translations.
I've never had a good impression of Irobe until I read the first volume of the prequels. Throughout the Karin arc, I just felt like he and Kenshin were backstabbing Kagetora, although I don't really blame Hakkai because he honestly can't do anything considering his lower ranking.
