First post of the year and a drama rec - Nirvana in Fire

But here I am, after ( Read more... )

Good to see you're still around! Will appreciate your MOB stuff, no matter how long it takes. I'm just grateful you're still doing it, thank you.

The protagonist having a disease that simultaneously makes him more handsome and unrecognisable to his foes (while others conveniently recognise hims for some reason) sure is one ingenious plot device!XD

Jokes aside, i'm 5 episodes in now and pretty much hooked. I'm slowly starting to get the hang of who's who and i agree that the show looks really good and the acting is superb (and yes, the final GoT season has been utterly frustrating...), so thanks for the rec!^^

LOL, I definitely have no objections to that plot device XD

Good to know you're enjoying the show. ^^ The quality of the production really took me by surprise TBH.

I just finished it and now i've got thoughts and feelings. Well, mostly feelings since it probably will take a while to get my thoughts in order.

It's quite difficult to explain their relationship without going into spoiler territory but their bromance has a restraint that is emotional and sometimes frustrating in a satisfying way (if that makes sense).

This makes perfect sense to me now! Man, this relationship pushed all the right buttons for me and put me through a whirlwind of emotions, the actors were truly fantastic! My heart was really aching for these two, i think i'll need to start hunting for fanfic now...

But most of the acting was very impressive and made you feel for the characters ("good" or "evil") and i really loved that there were so many great female parts. Add to that that i've always had a soft spot for court intrigue, i was instantly hooked and basically binge-watched it.

Btw, i see that there's a second season, did you check it out? Is it anywhere near as good as the first?

Oh yeah, that relationship is full of feels! I was almost expecting the worst sort of ending in that Jing Yan doesn't find out about Mei Chang Su until the very, very end but good thing that wasn't the case although he found out pretty late.

I was really surprised there were so many great female characters too! Oh, I get what you mean by feeling for some of the 'evil' characters, I felt bad for Prince Yu actually.

I haven't seen the second season but from I've heard, it's a solid sequel, just not as memorable as the first due to the cast and slower pacing. Nirvana in Fire featured some of the top actors in the television industry whereas the sequel had a mostly younger cast.
