NAP / GNT

I was wondering if anyone might want to take up this cause.  It's a very minor cause of course, and doesn't really impact anyone.  But anyways.  The Open NAP pays out only 60 points for winning and the Open GNT pays out only 100 points for winning.  Personally, I feel like it should be more.  The NAP is a 4 session event, and a 4 session Open Pairs ( Read more... )

But you win money for airfare and hotel for getting to the national GNT/NAPs. And that's a rarity in the ACBL (for non-junior things). Though 60 for Open NAP does seem low. I was going to say that Mixed BAM is only 110, so Open GNT being 100 doesn't seem as bad. But I didn't realize Open GNT is a 5 day event. That's a friggin lot of days. Though maybe less experts in it then since they would be better off playing in other events with clients? No clue....

Yea, you do win money for airfare and hotels, but there's really no reason the money should reduce the point payout (also the amount of money varies year to year and district to district).

On the topic of field quality, its hard to say exactly, but I'm pretty sure that there are just as many experts in the GNTs / NAPs as in any other event, at least as a percentage. The NAP Open Finals don't overlap with any other event. The GNT overlaps with the 3 day LM Pairs, but starts 2 days earlier, and annually, Meckwell, Hamman and some NYC pros are in the GNTs, and only go to the LM pairs if they get KOed. Plus I don't think too many experts would rather play with clients in the 3 day LM pairs. Unless your client's name is George Jacobs or James Cayne.

This contrasts with the Wehner, which overlaps heavily with the Spingolds, the 3 day NA Swiss, which overlaps with the Resigner BAM, the Fast Pairs which overlaps with the Mixed BAM and the Spingold, and now the IMP Pairs will overlap with the Platinum Pairs.
