The story has broken that former-Eagle-now-Dallas-Cowboy Terrell Owens has tried to commit suicide. This morning, my office is filled with people cackling and high-fiving each other, celebrating that the football player who caused their team such grief tried to kill himself.

Sports-wise, this town deserves its fate.

As an Eagles fan, I have to say that you have several people in your office that need to be on the receiving end of an Eagles blitz. Without pads.

Then, please shoot them. This town and this world needs fewer people like that.

I totally agree. You know I am no Cowboys fan, but that's just sick for them to celebrate that.

It really is. And sadly, with few exceptions, that's the public face of Philly sports fans.

I think you'll find the public face of any sports organization's fans are the vocal extremists. I can say that taking my shoes off wouldn't help me to count the number of times I've heard a Dallas fan living in Philly mock, ridicule or delight in the on- and/or off-field problems of a Philadelphia Eagle, and in my travels to other cities, I can say I've heard some equally twisted shit about the local rivals. What I will agree to is that, for some reason, the local sports writers love to print the shit that spews out of the idiots' mouths, almost as if they want to cultivate the attitude that we're all a bunch of raving lunatics when it comes to our sports teams. . .

Gaaaaaaah. That's just awful. I can't imagine what kind of a person would cheer a suicide attempt. Did you tell them to knock it off?

I have always thought Terrell Owens was one of the world's biggest jerks, but I guess he must have just been using that to cover for something more painful. Hopefully his team will make him get help.

TO has come out and said that he has no idea what the police asked him but that he did not attempt suicide, which I'm inclined to believe.

I absolutely hate the mentality that athletes are the enemy. They're people. Sports fans who jump up and down to celebrate injuries on opposing teams or, worse, celebrate something like this bother me a lot. I don't understand why it's considered ok to wish ill will on an athlete or celebrate their personal or physical misfortune.

A lot of jack asses play sports, TO included. There are a lot of jack asses out there in the fan population, as evidenced, once again, by this event.
