My American Girl doll, Samantha, has been sitting in my room for a few months now. I found my stuff in a bin in the basement, and she just needed to be in my room. Then one of my friends posted instructions on wig-cleaning online, and I stared at Samantha. And I realized (not for the first time) that her hair was kind of ratty ( Read more... )

There's no shame in any of this. In fact, my inner child gets a delightful kick out of this. :) There's a young lady (our age) that I met through my SAI Alum chapter who is VERY into Blythe dolls. She actually makes accessories for them and has replaced/repaired their hair. I think she has an entire Facebook album to pictures taken to record her Blythes' adventures in the human world.

I think this is what fascinates me about Build-a-Bear. I've always and still am a stuffed animal person, so playing dress up with stuffed animals is right on point for me. LOL I get so mad when our puppy injures or murders Link's fluffies. And yes, murders. I don't know that I've ever posted any pictures of the aftermath of The Fluffinator.

You know, I briefly considered re-wigging her? But then I envisioned my descendants bringing her to the Antiques Road Show or something and the guy being like, "Well, this original American Girl doll would ordinarily be worth $5,000, but because she doesn't have her original hair she'll go for $50." Instead, I bought a hairbrush and a steamer.

I'm secretly waiting until my niece is old enough for Build-a-Bear so we can go together. "Oh, Elisa, let Aunt Angela pick one out, too. Then you can do it together!" The giant Build-a-Bear store is around the corner from my office. It's a wonder I haven't gone yet.

Yea, I wonder how bad a hit one of the AG dolls would truly take just from a re-wigging. I'd hope not nearly that much, but I can see why you chose not to go that route!

Link has two Build-a-Bears already, but it's really because I caved for myself. I got him a ninja Penguin before he was born and then last summer he was amused by a Kermit puppet so I made the claim that he chose it. Really... I was more excited by it because he was asleep in his stroller before we left the store. LOL Next time I'm there, I really should just let myself pick one while he picks one and be done with it.

I'm impressed that you haven't gone to the one near your office. That's some serious willpower. That'll be fun when your niece is a little older. Actually, I'd bet it'll be extra fun to go with her just because of her reaction and joy alone. :)
