Oh. But then she's speechless. For a few seconds, she resembles a fish out of water, opening and closing her mouth with no sound coming out. ) But I've got to go home. ( Homer, Kev, Lee, Fi. They all needed her. And her parents were back there. The reasons that kept her going, most days. Her response comes out as a reflex, honest and blunt as ever, before she can think of softening it, making it positive because her friend is bleeding a whole lot. )
You don't want to take a money home. We've got diseases and stuff. It's heaps nasty.
[ She laughs just a little bit, not too much because it hurts, and she squeezes Ellie's hand again. ]
I know. Sorry. [ A little ruefully, but she still can't help but to think Ellie would be much better off with her, back where she could keep her safe, because all these people suddenly disappearing without saying a word, all of them just... gone. It worries Em, sometimes. Sometimes she worries she will wake up and Ellie won't be there. ]
God, this hurts so much.
[ She was trying not to complain, but it's a little impossible. She would have agreed with Lee about the barbed wire comparison. Only a bundle of rows of barbed wire would be her assessment. ]
I'd go with you. ( She's pretty sure that's true. If it weren't for those people back home who needed her, anyway. ) I just need to find my parents. Okay?
( Saying no like that feels bad, but at least it's the truth. )
Come on. Obviously you've never eaten my friend Homer's cooking. I thought I was going to be throwing up until my eighteenth birthday. ( God. That was the worst day. ) It'll be okay. Just keep your chip up. You're not doing too bad, for a Frenchie. I reckoned you'd be heaps soft.
[ Probably the only reason she isn't doing bad it's because she's a little too tired to complain. And it hurts to move and to do anything other than just lay there. ]
Thanks. [ Kind of sarcastic, of course. She is trying very hard to keep her one eye open, but it's starting to get tiresome. She leans back a bit and turns her head up to the sky, staring at the clouds. ] It really is a beautiful place.
[ Like she's apologizing for bringing all of this to it. ]
All right. [She would argue, but no time.] Just hang on tight.
[She summons Bahamut, and it immediately shifts into Gestalt mode. Fang hops on, and offers Vanille her hand to help her up.] We've gotta be quick. That wound looks bad.
[And up they go. With a roar, Bahamut unfurls her wings and swoops into the sky. The trek to the jungle does not take long, at the pace they're going, but it takes longer to find the cliffs. As they come into view, Fang sucks in a breath.
It's Gran Pulse. Or at the least, it looks so similar to Pulse that it's eerie. She calls over the sound of the wind:]
[Vanille leans over the edge, keeping a careful grip so as not to fall, though she knows Fang would save the shit out of her like a bamf - she's done it before.
When she catches sight of the land spread out below them, her eyes go wide.] It looks just like home!
action; herp if this isn't cool ya'll, tell me and i'll editbrandsJune 12 2011, 14:36:27 UTC
[She grins.] Aren't I always careful?
[Bahamut descends, gracefully navigating through the canyon. Fang half expects to run headfirst into an Adamantoise. She wonders if this is something the kid made. "Hell," she'd called it. That was quite the joke.
Fang listens for any sign of the two, looks around. She hopes they're close, and gets her wish when she catches sight of them.] There! Think I found 'em!
[She spots the two just after Fang, and right away notices a problem. The cliff walls are jagged, with rocky outcroppings that would hinder Bahamut's descent.] I see them, but... look there! [She points to a large one, just above the girls -- not substantial enough for the dragon to land on, but dangerous enough to fly past that she doesn't want to risk it.] What should we do?
Yeah. It's not bad. ( Her faze follows Em's, and she's staring at the clouds for a second when something swoops into view. Immediately, she tenses; reflex, as much as anything, and immediately she's wishing she had her bloody gun, again.
When they got back, she was revoking that promise about not carrying the gun with her. Bullshit, that's what that idea was.
The shock means it takes a second for her voice to catch up, coming out strained when it finally manages to appear. ) The Hell is that? ( She's halfway through trying to work out if she can move Em, get her out of the open, when she squints, raises her hand to try and block out the light well enough to get a clearer view. )
Jesus.
( Yep. She's speechless, or as close as she can get. )
[ Em doesn't really notice the dark blur in the sky until Ellie does. And when they do, all that the woman can do is whimper. Come on, she has had enough to compensate for... Well, for a lifetime, but now there were monsters flying about?
This was such bullshit. ]
Please tell me that I'm suffering hallucinations from the blood loss.
[ She leans her head back, grimacing in pain, as she holds back a groan, pressing her hands tighter to the wound. Her breathing is getting to a stage that it's pretty superficial, and it's getting harder and harder to think.
She just really wants to rest for a little while. ]
Just hang on. I'll get you two out.
Keep talking to her.
