What no? Wouldn't it have been better if Charlton "From My Cold Dead Hands" Heston had died of some sort of gun-related incident and Hunter S "DRUGS!" Thompson died with a critical failure of mental function?

No way. Irony of Heston dying by gunshot aside, it's much more fitting that Thompson would off himself on his own terms to avoid that kind of physical and mental deterioration.
