Give Code Geass some time, it took me a little while to get into it too, just because of the Clamp character designs, the somewhat oddly nationalistic and possibly slightly anti-western plot and signs of them pulling some of the same shit they did with Gundam Seed, but by the end of the show it'd gotten to be one of my favorites. I don't know what exactly irritates you about it, but on the whole the series is generally thought of as like 60% Death Note and 40% Gundam. The plot has some great twists to it (oh my god there is this one episode right towards the end holy shit you wouldn't believe it) and is for the most part really well written. They laid out a whole alternate history that they've hinted at and alluded to at various points that goes all the way back to the Roman invasion of the British Isles. I personally really liked the music, too, and picked up the soundtrack, though I know there were quite a few who disliked it, particularly the first ending theme (don't know what you're talking about with the OP, though, I loved

It's awful. And do they realize they've named their anime, Code Gay Ass? Which is fairly accurate. Kugh GOD the drawing is terrible. The voice casting is terrible. The plot, which I can predict from beginning to end from just the first three episodes, is also awful. I wouldn't mind the fact that it's entirely awful if I had at least some pretty shiny colors to look at. This is s-CRY-ed all over again. Just with mecha.
I did mention that I've never seen Gundam-- it was on the list but Nate went away before we got around to it. So obviously it's going to be difficult for me to appreciate a critique of something I haven't seen
