First: My laptop. It is, as Marcus so lovingly put it, bricked. This is not to say it can't be fixed, but fixing it would require actually opening the thing up and poking at it and I'm not sure who to trust to do it and how much he would charge me (and I don't have that much money to spend right now). Otherwise, not knowing how much stuff you actually have:
I think taking it with you just guarantees that you'll have to go through this all over again come winter.
Can you store it in Austin either with the friends or in a storage place?
What about making a trip to your dad's to see him on the way to PA and leaving some or all of it there?
If you end up deciding to get rid of some things that you really enjoy - I would suggest giving them as gifts to someone you know will enjoy using it as much as you did. That way, rather than simply selling or giving them to Goodwillesque places you will have the pleasure of knowing that the item is being used and appreciated.
I don't claim to have mastered this myself, but I always think we should live such that we wouldn't be lost in our identities or direction if some mishap separated us from all of our worldly possessions.
