good thing you are not getting a cat because i read that somewhere in my psychology article book that having a cat when you are pregnant and have small babies you have a 1% risk of contracting this disease they get from being outside and they poop it out and it gets in the cat litter and then poisens the little kids. I dont know all the details, but look it up.

ok here's something about it.

oh yeah, i know about it already. i've been around cats my whole life though, so i'm less susceptible. also, as long as i don't clean the litter box while i'm pregnant, i'm safe.

and it's only actually a risk if the cat goes outdoors, and we'd rather have an indoor cat. we still might get a kitty later:)

the humane society does a really thorough behavior assessment of all the animals they're given before placing them up for adoption. they test them around kids, different dogs, cats, etc. they test the dogs to see how they react to someone trying to bother them while they eat, they test them in the different ways people approach dogs...and if they don't pass the assessment, they get put down because they're not safe to adopt. and on the chart for each dog, they list their behavior and personality type. they also let you know what ages the dogs have had experience with, and what age group of children the dogs would be appropriate with. the humane society also performs basic health screenings and gives the dogs up-to-date vaccinations ( ... )
