In anticipation of my trip, I have written up a résumé, applied for a job, and begun to learn Polish. It's really, really hard. I'm actually seriously considering this now. For the first time in my entire life, at almost 19 years old, I feel kind of responsible, or mature, or adult, or whatever. I will do all the planning, and I will fund it by myself. I will make this happen.

The thought of possibly going to the 94th Universal Congress of Esperanto in Białystok, Poland next year crossed my mind, since I'm still young enough that I don't have to pay to attend (it costs €150 for most people, I think). Airfare is way too expensive to justify it, though. Saving €150 is basically trivial at that point.

I met the guy who's the manager of the best record store in Bloomington last night, and today I went down there to browse during one of my breaks. He put on a recording of the show which he had gotten from a friend, and it was really surprisingly excellent quality. I saw Boduf Songs tonight. I had been looking forward to this show for months, and though To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie was also billed initially (and would've been awesome to see), Boduf Songs was the main reason I wanted to go. Also, I got completely demolished by that same pothole filled with water1 today. I wasn't paying attention. Those kids got off easy -- my entire left side got completely soaked. Karma, I guess.

I was stopped by Mormon missionaries on my way to class, and they asked me (if I knew) who wrote the Book of Mormon, and I said, "Joseph Smith." They seemed a little uncomfortable with my response. There was talk of translation, but I remembered further on my way (i.e. too late) that he wrote "AUTHOR AND PROPRIETOR" on the first edition of the Book ( Read more... )

Kimya Dawson. Sigh @ the rest of Bloomington thinking this is something totally awesome when there are great shows all the time that no one gives a toss about. I'll be in my room sulking.

Last night I think I had a dream where I decided that The Stranger couldn't be my favorite book anymore because it's too bleak and depressing. Huh. Also featuring in this dream were some people from high school, my 10th grade science teacher, and Esperanto.
