An in-depth analysis of Viz's volume 9 translation

Hello everyone! A while back, after I received my copy of English Loveless Volume 9, translated by Viz, I did an analysis of some of the things I found strange or mistranslated. In my opinion, it's worth a read. I'm not trying to speak badly about Viz, but rather, to make people aware that translators may not always be the most reliable.

That was a really interesting read, thank you!

Are you intending to pick up the rereleases of the earlier volumes? I'm curious as to what you think of the Viz translation compared to Tokyopop's, instead of Kamibana's, and a side-by-side comparison of the two official translations would be very interesting.

Wow, thanks for the comparisons! These are all very good points. I love that you went in detail about the examples. I never realized how much I like the line about girls being 'difficult' before... it makes me appreciate Soubi more.

I also thought it was weird, the way Soubi casually referenced Ritsu in his conversation in the Viz translation... I complained a bit about it to a friend, but I was preaching to the choir, haha. She had noticed it too.

Kamibana translates Loveless beautifully. We're lucky to have them.

Wow, this is really nice. I loved reading about all the points you brought up, and it kind of makes me wish that we could get Viz on the line and ask them for their reasons for these changes. I also support baxaronn's idea; I'd love to see a comparison of Viz and Tokyopop.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I was planning to get the English version along with the Japanese one, but maybe I'll stick to just the Japanese one.
