I did'nt know you were in NYC. [Jon looks out his window in the general direction of the city and waves].
Crossing the street is a vital skill to learn. It's sort of a game of chicken between the pedestrians and the drivers. To me it's like migrating wildebeest wanting needing to cross a river. They gather up on one side of the bank, and as if by some unknown signal the heard crosses the river together. As a heard they keep from getting washed away. Much the same as an individual crossing a NYC street will get run over by a taxi, but as part of a heard, the taxi won't run them over. (The cab drivers depend on their cars... running one person over won't hurt the car, but running a bunch of people over will ruin the suspension of the car :-) )
I am surprised how well everything is going here -- apart from my aching throat and feet :-). New York does look sorta intimidating, especially with all these fences everywhere, and it is definitely faster and dirtier than Berlin, but the people here are soooo friendly!
HEE HEE! Good for you. I <3 NYC as well. NYC tap water makes some of the best bread and certainly some of the best pizza dough in the world. When Henry was 3 I taught him to cross the street in Manhattan. He still talks about it when he's impatient at a Seattle crosswalk.
At three?! You do know how to pick the right methods to teach Henry all the superman skills!
I am amazed how wonderfully un-American (in a good way!) this city is. The only thing that could possibly make New York any cooler would be the metric system.
