This morning I went to the Alewife T station as usual and got on the next train due to go out. The doors closed... and the train failed to go anywhere. Sounds to me like the second train you were on had sticky brakes (burning smell) and resulting flat spots on the wheels (shuddering weirdly). But overall this definitely does not sound like the T's finest hour. I mean, using an entire train to shove a cripple up the line? Industrial railroads in Europe have electric mules for such matters, for crying out loud. (And if the pusher didn't have trouble shoving up the hill from Park to Charles, I shudder to think of where the problem lay between Porter and Alewife.)
At least they kept everybody's safety at the top of the list, though.
