[Twenty-Six] - The Bittersweet Between My Teeth

Jul 13, 2011 21:59

I was a terrorist.

I helped kill dozens of innocent people and probably hundreds of others in order to free Japan from the oppression of the Britannian Empire. I'd do it again, too. I don't regret it, because I did it for the country, family and friends that I loved.

That's all I have to say.

event yo, rebel rebel rebel

Kouzuki. We have fought together, though not in some time. You were a noble warrior then. You are now as well. Spilling the blood of many is the fate of a warrior. You must accept it, and it will strengthen you. Just... understand the weight of those lives. You carry them now.

I…

I try to understand them. Sometimes. I mean, the people I killed. I know they had families, friends and people they loved, too. But if I never knew them, how can I really feel that weight? I can cry for the Japanese, but I can't bring myself to cry for them.

You can't.

Cry for the necessity of slaying them, if you must weep. But you can't mourn for your enemies like that.... not in that kind of war, anyway.

Just remember that when Humanity wars with itself it is diminished.

I have a friend who understood that.

He strove for peace we all wanted, and in the end, he got it. Even without my help. Maybe that's something I regret more than all the killing I did.

Nunally…

I'm half Japanese. I'm a member of the Black Knights. Before that, before we were "knights for justice," we did a lot of terrible things just to do damage and strike fear into the Brtannians that ruled our country. Zero gave us a real path, a real way to free Japan, but before that… it was harder. We did whatever we could.

[OKAY THIS IS A LOT TO PROCESS SO.... she'll be quiet.... for a moment................ normally she would make some excuse and end the conversation for now but she's stuck at level 3 honesty... she's obligated to say what she really thinks]

B-But... there had to be another way. A way without so much violence.

I don't know if there was.

I'm not going to say if it was right or wrong. It's just the path we chose. The Britannians were eating our country alive, and we had to do something.

Sorry it wasn't more exciting.

I have no idea. It seems to be going around, though, doesn't it?

Ha! And yet you dared to criticize me.

Not that I'm criticizing you. Becoming evil and staining your hands with blood is often necessary. But still, this is rich...! I wonder what Nunnally would think?

Don't compare yourself to me. I killed people to free my country. What exactly do you fight for?

I've only chosen to kill those who try to kill me.

Sometimes things need to be done against Empires. I hope you don't feel more guilty than necessary over it.

If I did, I never would have stuck with it to the end.

I was too deep in it to second guess myself. People were already dead, and more would die. That's something I had to accept if I wanted to finish what I started.

That's understandable. I commend you for thinking that way, rather than doing a half job of it. Most people wouldn't, I don't think.

You can't be halfhearted when people's lives are on the line. That's something every soldier should know.
