My house feels oversized and awkward since we returned yesterday from San Diego. Is this my couch? These must be the stairs I run up and down all day long doing chores and caring for Finn. Vacation was wonderful with its remarkable lack of routine. I stood by the toaster in the morning, reading my magazine and floating through unobligated space ( Read more... )

I am glAd you had a wonderful time. I love how you write! I sympathize with your train experience as we were just in hotel room with single paned windows near a very busy road all through out the night buses and cars raced by. People walking by felt like they were in our room. We asked to be switched the next night because the kids had a hard time sleeping. We were switched to a room facing a karaoke bar and a squeaky fan that I thought was the people squeaking the bed upstairs. Until I realized...how could they still be at it at 5am and thought to turn the fan off. The fun experiences we end up having! Sorry we missed you in SD but looking forward to seeing you when we get back!

great post...it was nice to read it! i completely relate to the lack of responsibility/lack of routine dynamic and how it conflicts with our reality, once we are back in it. we are hoping to go to san diego for spring break next year - i have family there so there's a human element to it too. i have a hard time justifying a trip in which i don't see ANYONE i know! i'm weird like that.
