we met a lady from tucson on our cruise. she was pretty cool until one night at dinner she started railing against mexicans. "oh they're a fine people, but they need to stay in mexico! some of the women don't even speak english and they're riding my shuttle asking me things in spanish!" oh the nerve, right? this woman was greek BTW, all irony lost there, i guess cos she was raised speaking english?? like, then it's ok to be an immigrant? personally, were i to move south, i would learn spanish. i'm actually thinking about learning spanish anyway.

people are so hypocritical about it here, it just boils down to classism, racism. if i were born in some dirt poor, no-industry mexican village, you can bet i'd be heading here too, and it is basically not possible to do it the right way unless you're willing to wait a decade before you can come over and have plenty of cash to squander on the matter. oy vey
