I think for people in serious relationships like you and I, this is a natural, if not easy choice. I can understand that if one is in a casual relationship, the friends have to come first. But both you and I have structured our lives around these people, and have in many ways put our futures contingent on a continued partnership. That commitment has a lot of responsibility, including putting their needs above all others besides your own... but maybe thats just me.

I don't think it's unpopular at all. The whole point of finding a "significant other" is that they are (hopefully and arguably) the one person on the planet who you both know and could spend your whole life with. The way I see it, significant others who earn the term "significant" are the family you choose. Friends can be that, to an extent, but not in the same way. Maybe I'm mistaken, because I've never been in that sort of situation, and i'm certainly being sappy, but isn't the whole point of being in love that you choose one person over all others to share your life with?

But I totally call dibs on shelter with you guys when the zombies come. you know I'll be useful to have around... if nothing else you'll have a slow, meaty person to leave behind and distract them with when you're on the run.
