Yesterday was wonderful. The boy and I went out to a used bookstore to find "new" art journals for jademondin and myself. I wanted one that definitely looked old and had lots of character. He has an amazing eye. He found two of them, similar in size, although mine is thicker. This bookstore was jammed full of old books (and smelled like it too!). He ( Read more... )

Here's another pick from the "unread" section of my bookshelf. I finished John Berger and John Christie's "I Send You this Cadmium Red" last night. I say that this is a paperquilt "of sorts" since it is not entirely stitched together. I guess it's more of a mixed media collage since it isn't all paper either. There's tyvek in there somewhere and painted fabrics as well as painted paper and just collage scraps ( Read more... )

The preliminary stages of painting and moving elements around in a page is one of the best parts of working on a visual journal. At this point, there are so many possibilities and thoughts are just whizzing around in your head, clamoring for attention. Sometimes I plan ahead of time and sometimes I don't. Since the boy is on the computer a lot these days, I have a lot of time for myself. When I'm too tired for the art thing, I've been curling up with some books that have been on my shelves for quite a while now - still waiting to be read.
