Because it needs to be said explicitly at least once.

You probably all know (if you know me at all) that I voted for Kerry and that I am unhappy about Bush's having won the election. That said, if YOU voted for Bush, if you LIKE Bush and you totally support him, that doesn't lower my opinion of you at all and it does not affect my friendship with you. I would never ditch a friend based on political ( Read more... )

This is where we part ways. I can not believe bush will be anything but bad for us. I hope he will be a good president and undo most of the evil done by the previous president.... Wait.

Boy scout motto. Prepare for the worst.

And I do believe who you voted for determines if I could talk to you, because how you detemined who to vote for would involve how you look at and deal with the world.

But that's me.

that's also why I keep my mouth shut most of the time.

Well, I know people who voted for Bush, and I'm sure it does reflect on how they look at and deal with the world, but not in a way that makes me think less of them. So what if they deal with the world differently? EVERYONE deals with the world differently.

I know that every deals with the world different. How you deal with the world does impact what kind of person you are, and there are many types of people I can't get along with. I'm snarky like that.

I remember a similar conversation on the udel community about a month ago. the gistof it came down to: "Yes, I'm a Kerry supporter. But that's not why I'm arguing with you about voting. I'm arguing with you about voting because I would rather that you vote (informedly) than not vote at all."

Same deal here at Duq.
Me, seeing button (any button) on person: "did you vote?"
Person, wearing bush button: (confused) "Yes, but wouldn't you want me to not vote?"
Me: "Nope. It's more important that everyone vote than it is that everyone vote for my guy."

It seems you are very mature about this. Especially since I tease that I am the one lone conservative amongst people I see on the internet. The reactions from various people on other livejournals is rather vitriolic and the like. Generally would question my intelligence and assume certain things about me just on my own political beliefs, and that they are completely false ( ... )

Another thing I notice is that maybe the rabid ones on both sides get more attention since it's sensational. The key for both parties is that to keep the angry people on their side from being percieved as the mainstream. What I'm interested is how the exit polls were so off ( ... )

I don't think the courts have ever forced one state to recognize a marriage granted in another state. If they do, than it's rare. (There was the time when the Supreme Court said interracial marriage was unconstitutional, but that was an issue of civil rights, not full faith and credit. Incidentally, I don't think interracial marriage is directly analagous to gay marriage, though I fully support both.)

Bravo! It was nice to see someone not being hateful and discriminatory based on political leanings. Your willingness to befriend folks with different opinions speaks volumes about your charcter.

I just had to speak up,
