I got a call from my dad today, with bad news, that my grandpa died. He was 99 and died in his sleep, so I guess at least that's about the best way to go someone could have. He was healthy and independent, hadn't even totally retired from farming until four years ago, when he had a bad stroke. It left him pretty incapacitated, and unable to speak ( Read more... )

I'm very sorry. Even if you weren't that close, it's still difficult when one of the Things That Always Has Been... isn't anymore. :(

Yeah, I think it still hasn't really sunk in yet. It doesn't help that I hadn't seen him in months, and I'm not even sure when exactly the last time was. I actually remember more specifically the last time I talked to him before the stroke, even though that was almost four years ago.
