I am totally with you on cycling through second-hand clothing. Apparently a lot of plus-sized steampunkers started sewing because they couldn't find anything cheap and decent in their sizes :|

jeez, subculture items are way more niche than just "stuff I like that fits". I don't envy them.

I learned how to sew because I was sick of altering my Goodwill purchases by hand, ha. I think I prefer tailoring and fixing up things over making clothes from scratch.

I am glad you are enjoying Cuba St and Wellington. It definitely has some amazing shops, though because I live out in the seaside suburbs I always think second hand stores in the City are so expensive still.

I am much the same way as you, recycle, remake, upcycle everything and anything. Which is why I have set the challenge for myself to only sew or buy all outer wear vintage/second hand.

Hope your stay here continues to go well.

oh man, the consignment stores in town ARE expensive. I admit that the only one I've bought anything from is the one with the "nothing over $20" sign (Paper Bag Princess). today I found a pair of Dorothy Perkins jeans, in my exact size and length - not bad for an op shop!

good for you on just buying secondhand, I like that challenge.

Yes Paper Bag Princess is pretty good. I would reccomend taking a train/bus trip out to regions outside Wellington for good second hand that is cheap. Wow! I got my only pair of jeans that fit me in length from Paper Bag Princess.
