Apartment question 2 electric bugaboo!

So I just signed a lease for a beautiful apartment on Franklin and Aldrich, it's on the same side of the street as Mortimer's. As I was walking out someone stopped me and told me that living there has been a nightmare due to the landlord because he kept 400 of the security deposit etc

i think the smoke can be handled, have you seen the walls? are they yellowed? either way living on the top floor is always best for the points you mentioned. will you be carrying your bike upstairs or locking it up everynight outside?
if you need help moving i don't drive, but am good at carrying boxes and furniture upstairs.
