Hind Rostom; one of the most celebrated artists in the history of Egyptian cinema during last century and nicknamed Rita Hayworth of the east, belly dancing on Sayed Darwish's Ya Aziz Einy as Shafiqa Al- Qebtiya "Shafiqa the Copt" in a movie about the real tragedy of Egypt's most celebrated belly dancer during the 19th century.

Indeed. some movies made it to great success because of their music and this one is included (though I have to admit, the story is it's greatest advantage)
Contemporary Arabic music had lots of these modernizations of old songs.. I am hoping to be able to post more of them via youtube since my host site is already closed :(

This was wonderful - thank you for telling the story. I took belly dancing classes a very long time ago but no one ever washed my feet with champagne!
