Well folks, the cam is down for the evening. It has gotten too dark out to get a picture. I should have thought ahead and tried to figure out strategic spotlights, but I was much more interested in getting plywood up. The gusts are up to the degree where the rain stings slightly against bare skin, but feels powerful and exhilerating. Looking at the map, it appears that if we make it through this band with no damage we'll have a couple of hours of semi-calm. It's a little after noon now. The worst is still about 4-6 hours away. I just came in from tending to the pool, trimming some bushes that didn't look like they were going to make it, tying up some saplings that didn't look happy and fixing a flapping piece of plywood that I hadn't secured thoroughly ( Read more... )

I awoke this morning at 6:30 to wind and rain noise that made me wonder if the predictions I had seen at 11pm were dreadfully inaccurate. It wasn't scary, just much more intense than I had expected that soon. As it turns out, we were experiencing what they call an "outer band" that lasted for about an hour.
