The Last Words Meme

This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die.

CAUSE OF DEATH1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligance, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or ( Read more... )

It was a realization that he thought he should have come to a long time ago. Perhaps he had, he wondered, and had only deluded himself that there was any other answer ( ... )

"You shouldn't have done that."

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

It was like a simple pang within the heart. Funny how those little things crept up. She'd thought it had simply been a brief glitch until it hadn't gone away. It simply sat there, the weight of reality staining her insides, much the way paint could stain canvas.

Getting to Sinnoh was about as simple for her as it had been for Cyrus. Human forms made it convenient, even with the odd looks placed in her direction. But she was propelled by what she felt was a most considerably wrong sensation. Something had gone wrong. Or if it hadn't already, it would soon. And she was too late to stop it.

But what?

She must have stood for hours, or whatever she felt like were, and stared at his back. She hadn't seen what he'd done, yet all the same, her suspicions were high, her nerves frayed, her deep-seated fears taking root in the very pit of her stomach.

Why? Why would you...Except she knew the answer to that. Finally, she uttered words, as soft as the breezes ( ... )

It was strangely fitting. Marth had likely known from the very beginning of things that in his position, those in his status were more probable to fall to polearms, lances, halberds, axes, broadswords, or even a well thrusted shield in hopes of a parry ( ... )

Not a god, but a man who dreamed of being a god. He had been cast into the fighting the mysterious force when it had come from nowhere and dominated Sinnoh. His followers were destroyed as troublemakers, the executions of his commanders broadcast for all to see.

And in that moment, something had changed in Cyrus. Previously a pacifist (although his adherence to that belief had been debatable), he came to embrace war, destruction, death, and to slaughter those foes without mercy, without concience, without regret.

Those who fought with him escaped his wrath, although he had made it clear that he had no care for them. And he never seemed to, existing only to destroy those who had taken the universe from him.

The closest he came was a grudging respect, and Marth was one of those he saw as worthy of it. To come across Marth in that condition, leaning over his shield and decidedly wounded, forced a rare hand extended in comeradery. "You will not fall here," he told the young prince. "Come with me."

Marth took many moments to stare at Cyrus. His... saviour, of sorts? He had no issues expressing his gratitude that anyone would come lend him a hand. Really. He didn't. Sure, there might have been a bit of a blow to the pride, but that hardly meant anything when death was staring him in the blue eyes.

He looked up to Cyrus and gratefully took his hand, trying to pull himself to his feet. "Thank you," he spoke carefully around a cough. "Where are we standing? Will we win...?"

Or is this a pointless battle?

"I learned long ago not to ever consider victory a sure thing," Cyrus told him. "Before my dreams were swept away by reality...but no matter. It appears, at this time, as if we will triumph, but another battle will always await us..."

The older man took hold of Marth, wrapping an arm around his back to support him. "Your wounds are severe. Do you believe them to be fatal?"

And though an angel sent from heaven, Mei Ling had appeared at the scene of the battle. She had heard the carnage occuring and she had rushed over. But by the time she had arrived, she feared she was too late.

But maybe, not. Was there anything or anyone left amongst the rubble?

"Professor!"

There was. Mei Ling ran over and saw that Oak had gravely injured. And by the looks of it, he didn't have that long left.

"Professor, can you hear me? Professor!"

So there he was. Lying prone on the floor, Riley could barely move. Lucario standing by his side as if guarding his body. Those Galactic fiends. With all his Pokemon preoccupied it was a risky move for him to fight with his aura. But he tried anyway. He fielded them off. Once they had cleared, he had collapsed on the ground with a giant wound across his chest. The blood was seeping through his coat.

"Hah, Lucario. I turned out to be a miserable excuse for an Aura Guardian."

Cyrus stared down at the man, at his own bloodied hands.

"...I told you not to interfere..." he muttered. Though it had been necessary to eliminate the Aura master, taking lives wasn't made easier by that, although it only manifested in him being quieter than usual. His face remained expressionless, stern.

"Do you really think I would have let you and your goons go unimpeded?" Riley coughed and felt his chest weakening. He'd be okay, enough to live for a few days or weeks but it was hurting damnably. "The only thing you're going to is your own destruction."

"Quite the contrary. I will be the only thing not destroyed." He knelt down beside the man. "...why do you continue to fight it? Why do you give your life to defy the salvation of the universe?"

[Sob indeed, but there is Mei Ling. She's sitting calmly and having ingested those pills, she knew death would claim her soon enough. There they were again in Shadow Moses. Always. It was always about this island, and there she was in the Control Room, having disabled one of the most dangerous machines on the planet.]
