Have to admit, I had the polar opposite reaction to this ep. I wouldn't say Ioathed it but it was a damn close call! I just cannot bear the lack of imagination or progression. I can see what you mean by them showing the trust between Merlin and Arthur, but I just can't see that they are doing anything worthwhile with it. I want to love it goddamnit especially because, like you, I'm in it for the Merlin/Arthur.
I see where you're coming from, I really do, and I think I felt mostly the same after the end of S4. Between all the bad things they've pulled in the past series and the spoilers we've got for this one, my expectations are pretty much set at -10. But, well, basically, I constantly expect them to fuck it up, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we never get a magic reveal (I'm certainly not expecting anything at this stage in the series), so when I watch, I tend to be pleasantly surprised by the good things, rather than disappointed by the bad, which I find is a pretty good mindset to have. *g*
Not going to lie, the A/M relationship is by far the most important reason I'm watching this show, so I am a little terrified this is all just a prelude to something bad happening between them.
Me too. I'm terrified of that. On the other hand it would be good drama and Bradley and Colin's acting would be stellar.
I will also never get tired of watching Arthur swordfight. *g*
It just looks so natural and beautiful. I don't want Bradley to get typecast when the shows over but not to see those sword fighting skills again would be a huge shame.
I feel like they're really outdoing themselves in creating a different feel for every location.
Yes, I loved how they made Nemeth feel so different. The locations and the way they use them are one of the joys of the show.
I wouldn't even mind if something broke them up *cough*magic reveal*cough* and they got to kiss and make up later; I think I'm just afraid of them permanently messing it up or putting the A/M relationship on the backburner. But yes, an actual argument would make good drama and I wouldn't mind seeing that provided there's a happy ending at the end of the line. :)
Wow. That is weird! LJ seems to be having some issues. o_O
I wouldn't mind something breaking them up (especially if that something is the magic reveal) if there's a happy ending in the future (and with a magic reveal they could finally have a proper kind of happy ending - well, ending of the legends aside *g*). I'm just terrified something more permanent will happen or that they'll decide to put A/M on the backburner or something, IDK - or Mordred coming between them, perhaps? - but fingers crossed that won't happen, they've been keeping it well in mind for now. :)
I wish Arthur had come to that conclusion by himself.
Yes, I agree, I was thinking, "Arthur already knows this. ...Right?" I agree, he's probably not 100% rational when it comes to Odin, but I kind of wish it showed Arthur just needing a bit of a push (from Merlin, naturally) to think it through himself. :)
Gaius arguing with Merlin every time he sees something suspicious is getting a bit old.
Sigh, yes. I think Gaius should have learned to trust Merlin's instincts by now. :)
Hee, that little look between Elyan and Gwaine when Gwaine shows up!
That was so cute! :D
Or maybe I'm just blinded by all the A/M interaction, I don't know, heh.
