Tapes!
I found my stash of VHS tapes and suddenly feel spoiled by modern technology. I'm used to being able to seek to any position instantaneously -- something that just can't happen with tape. Another thing I can't do with tape is get an instant list what's on it ( Read more... ) -

Restroom sink thoughts
I'm encountering "extreme water saving" sinks more and more these days. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the normal aerator is replaced with a tamper-resistant *obstruction* that barely lets any water through. They look like this and have all the rinsing power of someone taking a leak in your hands.

ANALog conversion
I have some *very important* VHS tapes to convert to DVD. No problem, I have a VHS VCR and a MiniDV VCR with Firewire passthrough. Connect the output of one to the input of the other, hook up the Firewire cable to my computer, and in comes the *very important* video in a stable digital format ( Read more... ) -

Awhile back I disassembled my vacuum cleaner and scrubbed its innards clean once I discovered mold growing under, on, and inside of it. Part of the process involved rinsing out the attachment hose. Lots of nasty stuff came out and I was happy to get rid of the moldy nastyness.
