Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.
How about if you're not in a marriage, heterosexual or otherwise, but still think "marriage protection" is the dumbest idea ever put forth on the popular political stage?
One of the "big issues" in the race for president this year in the states, is gay marriage. The big anti-gay marriage thing to say is that it's for one man and one woman, Protect it! etc. a lot of people feel that marriage as a one man one woman act needs to be 'protected'. Another lot of people (of which I'm one) thinks that's ridiculous, and believe if a couple, straight or not, wants to express their love for each other in marraige, it's their right as human beings. Not to mention that being unable to marry means that, for example of a friend of a friend recently, they cannot be with their partner of 30+ years when they're in the hospital, dying. Because they're not their 'spouse' (unless like said friend of friend's circumstance where the family of the dying delegated all decisions to her, because they knew SHE was the spouse, piece of paper or not). I hope I didn't ramble too much and it made sense to you.
That's...freaking insane. How on earth do they plan to 'protect' het-marriages? That's the bit that sounds very scary and dodgy. Geez, love should be the deciding factor in marriage, not gender, race, religion or any other sodding factor.
