Rae! It's so long and AWESOME! Kick ass Renji kick ass, and oh, magick AU and DRAMA! I loved all the ruination and angsting, I can just see them all kicking ass. Lab rat!Ukitake is such a good concept, and of course Renji's worried and smacks shit when he's angry. Ukitake is so Ukitake and great :D
And I am INTRIGUED YOU TEASE!!! *licks*

I'm glad you thought it was long :D It originally was much shorter than this and then it EXPANDED and I was like WHEE. And PFT if you think Renji is kick ass here, YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET!
(btw, I realized it was ambiguous, but when they refer to Renji's team, that's his team. As in he's the leader :D)
Ffff I'm so glad you like Ukitake here :D He's definitely a lab rat here >D BUT there's more to him than that. I CAN'T WAIT TO TELL HIS HISTORY OMG *dances*

And I totally cheered when you mentioned Renji smacking shit >D Originally he was just yelling at Ukitake, but then I decided it was Renji-like to hit things :D And that he'd feel comfortable enough with Ukitake in this AU to whack him around >D

Awesome AU! I love the idea of them using magic, and all the tension and suspense is really intriguing - just what exactly is going on there? And I love how well-written your fic is, it has a perfect flow of narrative. Ukitake as magician/scientist type is great, it really fits him. I will be looking forward to more of the story, it looks really interesting. I can't help but try to guess which other canon characters will appear in the AU :D A great first chapter, it does exactly what it is supposed to do - grabs the reader's attention and makes one interested in the continuation. Well done!
